Hair can be removed in many ways, and each way has pros and cons. Shaving, for instance, is fast and easy to do at home. But the result isn’t long-lasting, you quickly get an unpleasant stubble, red, irritated skin and ingrown hairs. Hair removal cream contains lots of chemicals, doesn’t smell very pleasant (to put it mildly) and will also result in a stubble. Waxing at home it can lead to a giant mess in your bathroom. During several attempts I had to deal with wax everywhere (never enough oily wipes to remove it) and far from hair-free legs in the end.  I know my hairs are stubborn, but still.

After extensive research, having tried all possible hair removal methods (shaving, exfoliating, tweezing, IPL, laser, strip waxing, hot waxing, electric depilation, threading, etc.) I came across sugar. I was very sceptical at first, I really could not imagine there being a method with no downsides.

I first discovered sugar paste at a trade fair for beauty specialists. They were demonstrating the product on passers-by, including me. The first thing that struck me was how simple it was. Sugar and water. That’s all.

The woman applied a small amount of sugar paste onto my arm and smoothly removed the hairs. It didn’t hurt at all. Then she sprayed something onto my skin, applied some lotion (at that time all the products were still unknown to me), and explained the process to the people standing around us. To be honest I wasn’t really paying attention, I only had eyes for the hairless patch of skin on my arm: so soft! I grabbed a brochure and continued my way.

Back home I took a good look at my arm again. I saw a neat, round, hairless patch of skin. The skin was really soft and smooth as a baby’s bottom. It felt so good. I tried to imagine what it would feel like if my whole arm was that soft… Wonderful!

But I had previously encountered many hair removal disappointments, so I remained sceptical and decided to wait and see what it would look like in a couple of days. Or a week.

A few days later nothing had changed. The patch on my arm was still hairless, soft, and smooth. I started to get really curious about that sugar and decided to look up the brochure.

A week, a couple of weeks, a month later and there still wasn’t any hair to be found on the mysterious hairless patch. I thought I had lost my mind! I needed to find out more.

I started to look for more information, wanted to find salons using this method. It turned out there weren’t any. I found out that sugaring is one of the oldest hair removal methods in the world. Even Cleopatra used sugar to get rid of unwanted hair.

The principle is super simple: You take the sugar paste, made with only sugar and water. You massage it onto the skin, against the direction of hair growth. This way each and every hair is coated by sugar. An extra, gentle press to make sure that the sugar touches the skin (which leads to better grip of the hairs). Then with one smooth movement  you peel the sugar from the skin, in the same direction of the hair growth. This is when the hairs are removed. They almost jump out of your skin.

Because the sugar is removed in the same direction as the hair growth, the hairs don’t break (which does happen with ordinary waxing). The hair is pulled out from its root, so it has to completely re-grow. The new hair that pops up after a couple of weeks will feel much softer than the old hair.

Eureka.

That is how I started my own salon. With the best hair removal method. A method with only benefits.

  • It is the least painful way to remove hair.
  • It is the most natural way to remove hair, no chemicals.
  • It is a very thorough hair removal method, as the hair is removed from its root.
  • Skin is not affected and will stay soft and smooth.
  • Sugar is hygienic: bacteria or fungi cannot develop in sugar. Sugar is a natural preservative.
  • It is suitable for the most sensitive skin.
  • It is suitable for all kinds of hair, coarse to fine.
  • It is suitable for all skin types. Even the most sensitive skin can be treated.
  • When treated regularly, all the hairs will start to grow in the same pace. You won’t have to save your hairs. They will grow simultaneously, turn up all at once, so we can remove them at once.
  • Eventually it will lead to permanent hair removal.
  • It is suitable for the entire body. Feet to brows, it all becomes more beautiful thanks to sugaring.

Fascinating how these results could be reached with only sugar and water. I became obsessed with sugar paste. I bought it at the wholesaler, but at the same time I wondered: sugar and water…could I make it myself? The ingredients are so simple.

This turned out to be quite difficult. It took me a lot of time experimenting  before I managed to create a workable sugar paste. But this way I did get to learn everything about sugar. Finally I managed to develop the perfect sugar paste, even better than the one I could buy at the wholesaler. With nothing more than sugar and water.

In the salon I gained more and more experience in sugaring and became more and more impressed with the results. No matter how excessive the hair growth, sugar always removes the hairs perfectly.  I saw the most sensitive eczema skins reacting amazingly well to sugaring. Hairs stay away longer, become thinner and softer.

I had heard so many promises about hair removal in the past, but none of them ever turned out to be true. But sugar actually kept its promise. I saw the skin of my clients, but also my own skin, become healthier. My hair growth became less heavy. I had a smooth, healthy, soft skin. All of a sudden body hair was no longer an issue to me.

I am so happy I want to scream it from the rooftops! But instead I will tell you here. I need to share my knowledge: You too should be able to enjoy beautiful, soft and healthy skin.

I now  know what it takes, I know how to take good care of your skin, I know exactly what it needs. And I want to share it with you so that you can also say: body hair is no longer an issue to me.
